How to Sew a Hem

Today I'd like to show you a basic sewing skill:
Hemming.

If you can do this, you can do lots of fun stuff.
Like,
tailoring your own {or your family's} pants, skirts, and dresses to the just-right-length.
Which is awesome because now your clothes fit and you don't have to pay someone to make that happen.

My Kitchen & Living Room Makeover

Walking up the sidewalk for the first time, our house (which was then only HIS house) reminded me of my grandparents' house.  Laid before me was a mid-century bit-of-brick ranch. So I was expecting my grandparents' closed-off kitchen, tiny eat-in table, and a separate living room.
I was prepared to enter into something akin to this:

As I walked in the door, I did what I have seen almost everyone do as they walk in our door: I stopped, pulled my head back, scanned the room and said, "Wow. This is really nice."  Because when I opened the door I saw this:

My Public Misses Me?

If in fact what my husband just told me is true, they do.

I've been away from my blog far longer than I meant to.
Actually I had a blog entry all photographed up, just needing to be written last month.
But
     at the end of June
                      was J's 1st Birthday!

AND, apparently when my first child has a first birthday,
     well
the entire month is mentally occupied and blogging just doesn't enter in the mix.
